New Zealand CCTV Security Camera
Q: How do I install my wired New Zealand CCTV security camera?
Your New Zealand CCTV security camera must be located in a position where it can see the area of interest. Usually a high position, on a wall or pole, will give the best view for outdoor cameras.
An indoor CCTV security camera is usually mounted from the ceiling or neat the top of a wall. Positioning the camera in a corner of the room will give a view of the greatest part of the floor. The motioning location must be rigid so that the CCTV camera does not shake or vibrate, making the image difficult to view.
The location should also be chosen to simplify running power and video cables to the CCTV security camera. For short distances of a few metres, you can use ready-made AV leads with RCA connectors (as used to link DVDs and VCRs to TVs) to carry the video signal from your CCTV security camera to your monitor or DVR. For longer runs use RG59/U coax cable. This cable has much lower loss than the cable used in AV leads. You will need to fit connectors to each end of this cable.
If the CCTV security camera is located close to a 230 V AC socket then the power pack may be plugged into this and the cable plugged directly into the CCTV security camera. If there is no close by socket there are several options: have an electrician install a socket in a suitable location, extend the DC cable on the power pack, use a version RG59/U cable called combo or Siamese cable which includes extra wires for the power supply to the CCTV security camera.
